Most people would agree that the software industry as a whole has really embraced open source software. The evidence to support this claim is all around us; Microsoft has become one of the biggest open source contributors of 2016 and we’ve seen an increased government use of GitHub. Companies are seeing open source as a way to access competitive technology, attract developers, reduce costs and many other benefits.
However, within financial services we are lagging behind. I recently chaired a panel at FinJS where we discussed some of the unique challenges faced by those working in this sector. More recently I joined the Symphony Foundation, which seeks to foster open source collaboration within financial services, tackling issues of licensing, governance and ownership.
We are interested in exploring the challenges faced by our Financial Services clients, which is why we have launched this survey.
The survey explores the motivation, barriers, and benefits of open source adoption. We’d love you to be part of it. So if you have five minutes to spare, why not take part? We’ll be sure to notify you of the results as soon as we have them.
